Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announces the promotion of 37 lawyers to the partnership.1 The new partners are drawn from all of the firm's market-leading practices and reflect continued investment and growth in every region. The appointments reflect the firm's global strategic growth priorities and build on significant numbers of lateral hires in the past year.2
Together these new partners specialise across a range of our leading practice and product areas that are critical to the firm's clients and their strategic needs. In particular, this year many of our new partners are working actively with our financial investor clients across a range of geographies and products3.
Matthew Layton, Global Managing Partner comments: "These promotions are a key milestone in careers that have been defined by talent, commitment and entrepreneurialism. Everyone joining the partnership has become a "go-to" adviser for many of the world's most influential organisations on their strategically critical opportunities and challenges. As well as congratulating them on their success to date, I hope the rest of their careers can be as rich and rewarding as mine has been at the firm."
Jeroen Ouwehand, Global Senior Partner, comments: "As well as being the largest new round of partners since 2007, this is our most diverse ever. Together, they embody our uncompromising pursuit of excellence, and our ambitious goals to build a law firm where everyone can see they have a fair chance to reach the top of the profession."
Key statistics:
- Gender: 41% (15) new partners were female, more than in any previous promotion round. The rolling average of 37% over five years is also the highest to date. The firm has a target of at least 40% female and at least 40% male global partners in the firm by 2030.
- Ethnicity: 23% (5) of the 21 new US and UK partners4 who have disclosed ethnicity identified as non-white. This exceeds the firm's target of 15% of new partners by 2025 for the second year running.
