Casablanca

The intellectual challenges you'll find at Clifford Chance are extraordinarily rich. Client matters rarely fall conveniently within one practice area, so our people have to combine their expertise to cut through the most complex of problems. With offices throughout Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, our lawyers advise under common law and civil law systems, in local and cross-border transactions, on the most challenging matters.

As an associate, doing this work means you'll have to consider every angle. You won't just think through a problem; you'll think around it. You'll connect regularly with colleagues around the globe. You'll also work together to find solutions across borders, languages, and legal systems. It's this sense of collaboration that truly sets us apart.

Our office

Our Casablanca office is in Casablanca Finance City (CFC), an African economic and financial hub located at the crossroads of continents. The CFC FIRST Tower is an emblematic building in the new Casa-Anfa zone, recognised by its innovative architecture and ecological performance.

It's the perfect base for our Clifford Chance Casablanca regional office as a nerve centre reciprocally connecting clients from across the world with on the ground resources in Africa.

Our office is a strategic base for business in North and West Africa, where we offer an unparalleled experience for our clients in operating efficiently and seamlessly from a single hub. Wvery step we take is with one eye on both the “big picture” and the other on the nuances of individual jurisdictions.

A leading role in the Africa practice

Our team in Morocco joins forces and combines resources with 200 lawyers from across the Clifford Chance network who work in close collaboration with the six dedicated regional teams covering the whole of Africa.

We have formed strong ties with the leading law firms across Africa where we don't have a physical office and pride ourselves on our significant track record of working on major ground-breaking and innovative deals where we act as international counsel in close cooperation with local law firms.

Our People

Mustapha Mourahib, Partner

I have been the managing partner of our Clifford Chance office in Casablanca since 2012 and I am also a member of our Africa Leadership Group. I am the chair of our REACH (Race Equality and Celebrating Heritage) network, a diversity and inclusion initiative for Continental Europe.

I joined the firm in 2006 and before that I was an associate at another global law firm in Paris and New York for seven years. I have over 20 years of experience in large-scale M&A and private equity transactions for the world’s leading corporations or financial investors in Africa across sectors. I also represent public, private and state-owned corporate clients in the development and financing of large projects. I was involved in drafting legislation in Morocco and other African countries in the financial sector.

There are many reasons why I joined Clifford Chance, but the main one is probably that I wanted to be part of a firm where the brightest experts in their field work together as one team to deliver the best service to our clients. The quality of the people - from lawyers to business professionals - is unique at Clifford Chance. Also, the reputation of the firm as the best for training was a key driver for me. Most importantly, I quickly realised that Clifford Chance is very invested in removing obstacles that professionals from diverse backgrounds face in building their careers, not just in words or principles, but effectively in practice.Above and beyond mastering business law, which is a prerequisite, to me, Clifford Chance is the best place to learn how to better understand clients' needs, their businesses, and the challenges they face in order to bring commercial insights and value to our advice. That for me is an essential factor for any lawyer who wants to develop their career.

Ouns Lemseffer, Partner

I started my career at Clifford Chance in 2010 as an intern in the Paris office after having completed a dual qualification in Finance at ESCP and in law at Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas. I joined at a time when the firm was preparing for the opening of the regional Casablanca office.

I moved to Casablanca when the office was opened in January 2012 and the office has since become a great success and a key component of our Africa strategy.Over the years, I have developed my expertise across a wide spectrum of finance and capital markets transactions, as well as PE and M&A transactions. The combination of legal skills and products is key for any lawyer wishing to develop in an emerging market.

When I first joined the firm, I was struck by how approachable the people are and their kindness. Also, the great support and trust that I benefited from very early in my career. As a homegrown Clifford Chance lawyer whose three children were born at an acceleration point in my career, the support and mentorship that I benefited from during these times has been critical. This emphasises how essential support is to achieve our potential.

What I like at Clifford Chance is that gender inclusion is not simply about discussion or speeches; there is a strong commitment and concrete actions taken to improve gender balance across the whole firm and at all levels of seniority.

Unity in diversity

One of the best ways for you to know whether Clifford Chance is the place for you is to discover who we are and what makes us different.

At Clifford Chance we understand that diversity and inclusion are good for our staff and their families, our firm and our clients, and society. Diversity and inclusion are intrinsic values of our firm and among the pillars of our firm's code of conduct.

We believe that promoting diversity means creating an inclusive work environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed without obstacles. We recognise that people from varying backgrounds can bring a full range of worthwhile ideas and innovations to our working practices and business.

In Casablanca, we are a diverse team, with different multicultural backgrounds, speaking eight languages between us. What brings us together is that we embrace our differences and make them our strengths.

Across our global network we have a range of committees focusing on ethnicity, culture, race and heritage that reflect the wide variety of people who make up our firm. These include the REACH (Race Equality and Celebrating Heritage) committee in Continental Europe, of which the Casablanca team is a founding member and active supporter.
