REvolve Report – Transparency: The role of data in a transparent real estate market

Real Estate Proptech 28 January 2026

Transparency underpins trust in real estate markets and the decisions that shape them. Long viewed as relatively opaque, the sector is becoming more transparent as regulation tightens and the availability and use of data continues to grow.

Greater visibility can attract investment, accelerate decision‑making and improve accountability, supporting long‑term confidence across the market.

However, increased transparency also brings challenges. Poor‑quality data and rising compliance demands can create friction. The exposure of commercially sensitive or private information can undermine confidence and competitive advantage if not carefully managed.

This latest REvolve paper explores what transparency in real estate needs to achieve, and who it matters most to. It examines the role data plays in enabling better planning, development, lending and occupation decisions, while also highlighting the trade‑offs market participants must navigate.

As a member of REvolve, the Digital Real Estate Innovation Council, we have contributed to the wider series, which provides perspectives on some of the most pressing challenges facing real estate as it undergoes digital transformation.
