Clifford Chance advises Navantia on strategic acquisition of Harland & Wolff

Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised Navantia, a Spanish state-owned shipbuilder, on its acquisition of Harland & Wolff's businesses at Belfast, Appledore, Methil and Arnish in a pre-pack administration. The transaction ensures the continuation of the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) programme, comprising three ships for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary to support the UK Carrier Strike Group, strengthening Britain's defence, maritime and clean energy industrial capabilities.

Clifford Chance M&A partner Erik O’Connor and restructuring and insolvency partner Melissa Coakley led a cross-practice deal team including partners Steven Fox (M&A), Angela Kearns (real estate aspects), Adam Hedley (environmental), Alastair Windass (employment), Sarah McAleer (pensions), Michael Pearson (energy & infrastructure), Ed Page (tax), Rob Lambert, Alex Panayides, Sam Brown (all litigation), Fernando Irurzun (litigation Madrid) and Stephen Reese (IP). The antitrust team comprised partners Michael Grenfell and Jennifer Storey in London, and Anastasios Tomtsis in Brussels.
