In the second series of the Fintech Files (see first series), Crafty Counsel heads to Central Europe to sit down with Clifford Chance and in-house lawyers from leading fintech industry players to discuss hot topics including payments, crypto, market trends and new legislation.

Episode Two:How Mollie is using partnerships to improve the services of payment platforms  💭

In the second video, Célie Verstelle, Chief Legal Compliance Officer of Mollie, the payment service provider, sits down with Clifford Chance senior counsel, Marian Scheele and senior associate, Wouter van den Bosch, to share insights into what they’re doing at Mollie.

Among other things, the group discusses how payment service providers improve their services by forming partnerships, the challenges of expanding internationally from both a compliance and operational perspective, attracting talent in the Netherlands and some general insights on the financial services industry in Europe.

Episode Three: Challenges and trends of the currency payments market

In the third video, Clifford Chance’s Marian Scheele and Wouter van den Bosch are joined by Constant van der Merwe, Senior Counsel at Tencent to explore the currency payments market. 

As a Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate, Constant shares how Tencent offers an integrated payments ecosystem, which includes wallet services. The focus is on creating a seamless experience for the customer.

They also discuss the rise of the superApp, the growing trend of buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) businesses and the regulatory ambiguity around payment services.

Episode Four: What regulatory challenges are facing crypto markets? (Coming Soon)

In the final video, Tom Smeele, head of legal shares what they are experiencing at Vivid Money - a mobile banking app and digital investment platform. 

Exploring the new, and still largely unregulated, crypto investing industry to consider some of the challenges are the team from Clifford Chance, including Marina Sarkisjan (Legal Counsel) Christian Hissnauer (Senior Counsel) and Sam Akkersdijk (Associate).

Together they discuss the fragmentation of any regulation in crypto that does exist across different jurisdictions.
