Clifford Chance advises DEG on successful Series A financing for Bio-Lutions AG

Clifford Chance has advised DEG Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH on its successful Series A financing for Hamburg-based Bio-Lutions AG. Other Series A investors included Delivery Hero SE.

Bio-Lutions manufactures biodegradable packaging and disposable tableware from agricultural waste such as banana tree bark and pineapple or tomato plants. First, the organic material is dried. In a second step it is ground mechanically into fibres. These are self-binding when mixed with water, and can be processed into various forms of packaging and disposable tableware, without the need for chemical additives. The company has a production site in India, with plants in Germany and Thailand to follow.

As a subsidiary of KfW Group, the development bank DEG promotes pioneering investments of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its up-scaling programme. These companies can then expand their innovative business models and generate positive effects.

The Clifford Chance team comprised partner Christian Vogel, counsel Simon Schmid, senior associate Tobias Kamerling and associate Sandro Wiggerich (all Corporate/M&A), partners Claudia Milbradt and Gunnar Sachs as well as associate Fabian Wild (all IP/Data Protection), partner Florian Mahler and counsel Axel Schlieter (both Banking & Finance, all Dusseldorf) and partner Stefan Simon and associate Mario Maier (both Employment, Frankfurt and Munich).
