Clifford Chance secures groundbreaking victory for the European Superleague project
Clifford Chance has acted as exclusive advisor to the European Superleague Company and A22 Sports Management on all legal aspects of the Superleague project, including the legal proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which evaluated the monopoly on football exercised by UEFA and FIFA.
In a groundbreaking judgment, the CJEU has ruled that the market for organisation of sports tournaments is not a monopoly held by UEFA and FIFA and that this market should be open to alternative proposals in accordance with the general principles of competition law; and consequently, European football clubs are free to create their own competitions.

Clifford Chance consigue victoria histórica para el proyecto de la Superliga
Clifford Chance ha actuado como asesor exclusivo de European Superleague Company y A22 Sports Management en todos los aspectos jurídicos relativos al proyecto de la Superliga, incluyendo el procedimiento judicial seguido ante el Tribunal de Justicia de la Unión Europea (TJUE) en el que se valora el monopolio sobre el fútbol ejercido por UEFA y FIFA.
En una sentencia histórica, el TJUE ha resuelto que el mercado de organización de torneos deportivos no es un monopolio de UEFA y FIFA, que dicho mercado debe abrirse a propuestas alternativas de acuerdo con los principios generales del derecho de la competencia y que, en consecuencia, los clubes europeos de fútbol son libres de elegir su destino.
El equipo que ha asesorado a European Superleague Company y A22 Sports Management ha sido liderado por los socios Luis Alonso, Fernando Irurzun y Miguel Odriozola, con la colaboración del jurista Jean-Louis Dupont que trabajó con el equipo para asesorar al equipo en este asunto, y con el apoyo de los Counsel de la firma Belén Irissarry, Pablo Murcia y Fernando Giménez-Alvear.
