Clifford Chance strengthens its leading litigation practice in Asia Pacific
Hong Kong: Leading international law firm Clifford Chance announced today that its London head of banking litigation, Matthew Newick, will relocate to join the firm's Hong Kong Litigation and Dispute Resolution team.
Matthew has 25 years' experience specialising in commercial dispute resolution, particularly complex financial disputes and regulatory investigations. His experience has involved a wide range of financial institutions, products and industry documentation; numerous regulators, exchanges and prosecuting authorities (including the Hong Kong SFC); the full range of civil, criminal, regulatory and administrative proceedings, tribunals and remedies; many different domestic courts (including the Hong Kong Court of First Instance and Court of Appeal) and all types of dispute resolution techniques: court, arbitration, mediation and negotiation.
Peter Charlton, Regional Managing Partner of Asia Pacific said, "I am delighted to welcome Matthew to the region. As a highly experienced and very well-respected member of Clifford Chance's global litigation practice, I'm certain that he will make an excellent addition to our already leading litigation team."
Jeremy Sandelson, Global Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution, said, "Matthew has been an important member of our top-tier London practice. In Hong Kong he joins an equally well-regarded team, and I know he will again play a valuable role in reinforcing our market leadership. We have one of the strongest litigation teams in Asia Pacific with over 70 legal professionals, led by 13 partners and we are fully committed to developing further our capabilities as part of our global strategy to support client needs in all key markets around the world."
Matthew said, "Being part of the first-rate, cohesive team in London has been a great experience, and I am now delighted to be joining our talented team in Hong Kong as we look to help our clients manage their risks in a vibrant and exciting region."
Matthew will be travelling regularly to Hong Kong and the rest of Asia Pacific over the coming months before permanently relocating this summer.
This announcement comes on top of the recent establishment of a Formal Law Alliance (FLA) with Cavenagh Law LLP which adds top Singapore litigation legal talent: Harpreet Singh, a Senior Counsel in Singapore with extensive international arbitration and litigation experience and Paul Sandosham a specialist in energy, infrastructure and construction-related disputes.
