Clifford Chance advises Binance on landmark $2 billion investment from MGX
Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, on its landmark $2 billion investment from MGX, the Abu Dhabi-based AI and advanced technology investor.
This transaction marks the first institutional investment in Binance and is the largest investment ever made in a crypto company, as well as the largest paid entirely in stablecoin. The deal represents a significant step in advancing digital asset adoption and reinforcing blockchain’s role in global finance.
The investment secures MGX a stake in Binance and solidifies the exchange’s position at the forefront of the crypto revolution while underscoring MGX’s commitment to enabling decentralised finance (DeFi), the tokenise digital economy, and AI-powered blockchain solutions.
The Clifford Chance team was led by partner Robert Crothers, alongside senior associate Dan Bomsztyk. Partner Diego Ballon Ossio advised on financial regulatory aspects. Associates Tom Cowie, Benjamin Fung, Sabine van der Heuvel, Jonas Black, and trainee Cameron McGauchie also advised.
