Clifford Chance boosts international arbitration practice with Amaia Rivas as partner
Global law firm Clifford Chance is pleased to announce that Amaia Rivas has been appointed as a partner in its Litigation & Dispute Resolution team focusing on international arbitration based in Madrid. She will be joining in the coming weeks.
A State Attorney of the Kingdom of Spain (on leave of absence), Amaia Rivas has over a decade's experience in international arbitration, having been a part of the International Arbitration team of the Sub Directorate for Litigation for the State Attorney's Office, representing the Kingdom of Spain in forty two investment arbitrations under ICSID, SCC and the UNCITRAL Rules. During her tenure, she also held other positions, including as Legal Director of FROB in Spain (Executive Resolution Authority), as a member of the of the State Attorney's Office before the National Court, and Chief State Lawyer in Cordoba.
She joins the firm from international law firm Pinsent Masons in Madrid, where she led the Public Law and Regulated Sectors department and focused on international investment and commercial disputes for a number of years.
She was recognised among the top fifty female lawyers in arbitration in 2025 by Jus Connect.

La firma global Clifford Chance nombra a Amaia Rivas como socia de su departamento de Litigación y Arbitraje en Madrid, para liderar su equipo de arbitraje internacional. Su incorporación tendrá lugar en las próximas semanas.
Amaia Rivas es Abogado del Estado en excedencia, habiendo estado al servicio de la Administración Española durante más de una década, habiendo estado destinada al equipo de Arbitrajes Internacionales de la Subdirección de lo Contencioso de la Abogacía del Estado, representando al Reino de España en cuarenta y dos arbitrajes de inversión bajo las reglas del CIADI, SCC y CNUDMI. Durante sus años de servicio, ocupó varios puestos como Directora Jurídica del FROB (Autoridad Española de Resolución Bancaria), Abogada del Estado ante la Audiencia Nacional y la Abogacía del Estado de Córdoba, entre otros.
Se une al despacho desde la firma internacional Pinsent Masons en Madrid, donde dirigió el departamento de Derecho Público y Sectores Regulados durante 2 años y se ocupó de litigación comercial.
Amaia ha sido incluida en la lista de las 50 mejores abogadas de arbitraje de 2025 a nivel internacional por Jus Connect.
