Clifford Chance advises Rabobank on AMPYR Solar Europe's €200 million project finance facility to finance three Solar PV assets in the Netherlands

International law firm Clifford Chance has advised Rabobank in relation to the €200 million framework project finance facility for AMPYR Solar Europe, a leading pan-European solar developer and independent power producer ('IPP'), to build a portfolio of fully owned projects combined with projects with community participations. This allows AMPYR Solar Europe to construct and operate 350MWp of Solar PV assets across Europe.

This project showcases a unique structure developed for Rabobank and AMPYR Solar Europe. The financing allows AMPYR Solar Europe to build a portfolio of fully owned projects combined with projects with community participations (including partial community ownership). This fits well with the ambitions of both Rabobank and AMPYR Solar Europe, as it enables the local communities to take a stake in actually driving the energy transition. The first three Solar PV assets which will be financed through the facility will be in the communities of Echt-Susteren, Tinte and Venray in the Netherlands. Read more about the transaction here.

The Clifford Chance deal team comments: "We are proud to have been able to advise on this first of a kind transaction, where we have developed, together with Rabobank and AMPYR, a bespoke yet flexible financing solution that will enable AMPYR's further growth, as well as optimizing the possibility for market players to participate in the energy transition in The Netherlands and beyond. This has been an exciting matter for our leading project finance practice."

This transaction builds on Clifford Chance’s global footprint and extensive knowledge of local PV projects. This transaction allows Ampyr to further build out its project financed global portfolio consisting of different sized projects under a future proof set of finance documents.

The Clifford Chance core team consisted of Liesbeth Buiter, Nanette Rutgers, Lotte de Bruin, Rutger Dekker, Carlijn Tenge, Samiha Bham, Dolyne Munyampeta, Menno Postma and Jasper Leistra. The team was supported by Florian Mahler (Düsseldorf), Andreas Ruthemeyer (Frankfurt) and Birte Hüller (Düsseldorf).
