Clifford Chance promotes 8 lawyers to Counsel in Spain

Clifford Chance announces the promotion as of 1 May to the category of Counsel of 8 lawyers of the firm in Spain, namely: Felipe Font, Fernando Giménez-Alvear, Javier Hermosilla, Belén Irissarry, Pablo Murcia, María Pradillo, Jesús Quesada and María Sabau. In Europe, a total of 42 lawyers have been promoted to this professional category (43% women and 57% men). 

Felipe Font has been working as a lawyer in the Global Financial Markets practice area of Clifford Chance since 2011. He specialises in financial and corporate restructuring deals and real estate financing, although he often advises on corporate and acquisition finance. He holds a degree in Law and in Business Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid and has been teaching in the master's degree programme at the University of San Pablo CEU for several years. Felipe is the author of a book on banking case law, as well as doctrinal articles on financial and restructuring matters. He has been named an Associate to Watch in the Banking and Finance area by Chambers & Partners, a Rising Star in the Banking and Finance area and in Restructuring and Insolvency by Legal 500, and one of ten Runners Up by Global Restructuring Review.

Fernando Giménez-Alvear has been working as a lawyer in the firm's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice area since 2009, specialising in all kinds of judicial, arbitration and mediation proceedings. He is an expert in particular on conflicts in the insurance sector and on resolving disputes arising from M&A deals, corporate transactions, anti-trust matters, unfair competition and all types of commercial agreements. Fernando holds a degree in Law and in Business Administration and has a master's degree in Business Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE; he teaches at the same university and is a member of the Spanish Arbitration Club. Chambers & Partners has named him Star Associate in Dispute Resolution.

Javier Hermosilla has been working as a lawyer in the firm’s Corporate / M&A practice area since 2008, and was seconded to the M&A team in the London office in 2015-2016. His activities focus mainly on advising funds and large companies, both national and international, on M&A deals, joint ventures and restructuring, with special focus on the renewable energies, green hydrogen, infrastructure and telecommunications sectors. He has a degree in Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE E-3) in 2006 and in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE E-3) in 2007, with a master’s degree in Energy Law from the Spanish Energy Club in 2019. Javier is a prominent member of the firm's working group on green hydrogen. He has been a teaching at CUNEF for several years. Legal 500 and IFLR1000 have named him Rising Star in the Private Equity and M&A area. 

Belen Irissarry is a lawyer in the Antitrust and EU Law Department at Clifford Chance. With more than fifteen years of experience, she has participated in numerous concentration and restrictive practices deals, particularly in the audiovisual, telecommunications, information technology and retail distribution sectors. Belén holds a degree in Law from the University of Seville and a master’s in European Legal Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium). She regularly teaches classes on European and Antitrust law at Universidad Loyola Andalucía, is coordinator and co-author of the first Treatise on the Spanish Competition Act and is also the author of several publications on antitrust law. Chambers & Partners has ranked her in Band 5 and Legal 500 has named her a Rising Star.

Pablo Murcia has been working as a lawyer in the Corporate / M&A practice area since 2014. With more than fourteen years of experience, his professional activities focus on advising on M&A deals, joint ventures and corporate restructurings, with special focus on the energy and infrastructure sectors, as well as the sports and entertainment industry, regularly advising major companies and funds, both national and international. Pablo is an active member of the firm's Sports and Entertainment practice. He holds a degree in Law and in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona. He is a professor of commercial and M&A law at ISDE, where he collaborates on several degree and postgraduate programmes. He has been named Rising Star in the M&A area by IFLR 1000

María Pradillo has been working as a lawyer in the firm's Real Estate practice area since 2006. She specialises in complex real estate deals such as real estate joint ventures, acquisitions of real estate portfolio companies, sales and purchases of real estate portfolios, sale and lease back operations and real estate promotion projects. She holds a degree in Law and a diploma in Business Studies from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) and a master’s in Law from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). María has been named an Associate to Watch in the Real Estate area by Chambers & Partners and a Rising Star in the Real Estate and Construction area by Legal 500.

Jesús Quesada has been working as a lawyer in the firm's Global Financial Markets practice area since 2007. His activities mainly focus on advising funds and investment banks on structured finance, including securitisations, assignment of receivables, loan portfolio acquisitions, project bond issuance, and real estate finance. He holds a degree in Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE E-3) in 2007 and a degree in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE E-3) in 2008. Named by Legal 500 as Next generation partner and Rising star in the Capital Markets: Debt practice since 2018, he was a finalist in 2019 for the 4th edition of the Expansión Jurídico Awards, in the "Best Young Lawyer” category. Jesús has been teaching classes in the master’s programme at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) and the Institute for Market Studies (IEB) for several years.

María Sabau has been working as a lawyer in the firm's Global Financial Markets practice area since 2007. She is an expert on financing deals, including corporate finance, refinancing, project finance and acquisition finance in particular, with special focus on the infrastructure sector. She holds a degree in Law and in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE. While working at the firm, she was seconded to UniCredit's Financial Sponsor Solutions (leveraged finance) department in London. María has been named a Rising Star in the Banking and Finance area by Legal 500.
