Clifford Chance advises the French Rugby Federation on the long-term strategic partnership between Six Nations Rugby and CVC
Six Nations Rugby, the official organising body of the Six Nations Championships and Autumn Internationals, has announced it has agreed a long-term strategic partnership with CVC, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
The objective of the partnership is to invest to grow and develop the game; to further enhance the sporting spectacle of all the tournaments, the teams and the brands; and to build the data, technology, and broader commercial capabilities to support the ambitious plans of the organising unions and CVC.
CVC will bring to the partnership its significant experience in sports, as well as its global network, working alongside the unions and the Six Nations Rugby management team, to deliver on ambitious growth plans for the Six Nations Championships and Autumn International series.
Under the terms of the agreement the six unions will retain sole responsibility for the sporting matters as well as majority control of commercial decisions. CVC investment into Six Nations Rugby will be paid to the six unions over a period of five years.
Clifford Chance advised the French Rugby Federation on the various legal aspects of this operation, its structuring, its documentation, as well as on the regulatory aspects, with a team led by Laurent Schoenstein (M&A) and Gauthier Martin (Regulatory), partners, including Xavier Petet, Counsel, on the transactional and M&A aspects, Jonathan Lewis, partner, and Fabien Jacquemard, counsel, on the transactional and financial regulatory aspects, Clémence Graffan, associate, on the regulatory and sports law aspects, Eric Davoudet, partner, and Pierre Goyat, associate, on the structuring aspects, and David Tayar, partner, and Amélie Lavenir, associate, on the antitrust aspects.

Six Nations Rugby, l’organisme officiel organisateur du Tournoi des Six Nations et des Internationaux d’automne, a annoncé la conclusion d’un partenariat stratégique à long terme avec CVC, sous réserve des approbations réglementaires habituelles.
L’objectif du partenariat est d’investir dans la croissance et le développement du jeu, d’améliorer encore davantage le spectacle sportif qu’offrent tous les tournois, les équipes et les marques, et d’édifier les données, la technologie et des capacités commerciales plus avancées afin de soutenir les plans ambitieux des fédérations organisatrices et de CVC.
CVC apportera au partenariat sa grande expérience dans le domaine du sport, ainsi que son réseau mondial, et travaillera aux côtés des fédérations et de l’équipe de direction de Six Nations Rugby afin de concrétiser des plans de croissance ambitieux pour le Tournoi des Six Nations et les Internationaux d’automne.
Selon les termes de l’accord, les six fédérations resteront seules responsables des questions sportives et conserveront également le contrôle majoritaire des décisions commerciales. L’investissement de CVC dans Six Nations Rugby sera versé aux six fédérations sur une période de cinq ans.
