Clifford Chance advises IDB, CAF, CAF-AM, SMBC and Intesa on the financing of the Ferrocarril Central project in Uruguay

Clifford Chance has advised the Inter-American Development Bank, the Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina – CAF (known for its previous name of Corporación Andina de Fomento), CAF – Asset Manager, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. on the financing of the design, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of 272 kilometers of railway from Paso de los Toros to Montevideo (Uruguay) including the reconstruction of 80 kilometers of existing single-track line and the construction of 26 kilometers of two-way lines between Montevideo and Progreso. The transaction has an estimated capex of USD 1.07 billion.

The 'Ferrocarril Central' project, which will take around 3 years to complete, will operate as a Public-Private Partnership and is considered a key transport infrastructure investment for the country.
