Clifford Chance advises KEPCO on pioneering Fujeij wind project in Jordan

International law firm Clifford Chance has advised Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) on the development and financing of an 89.1MW wind power plant in the Fujeij area in Jordan.

It is one of the largest renewable energy projects in Jordan, and will contribute to boosting the country's reliance on domestic energy sources. The total construction cost of the project is estimated at US$184 million and the plant is scheduled to start operating at the end of 2018.

Richard Parris, who led the Clifford Chance team advising on the deal, commented:  "KEPCO is a leading force in the energy markets of the Middle East, and Jordan is a key market for the development of renewable energy in the region. This deal is another illustration of Clifford Chance's expertise in advising top-level energy clients on ground-breaking projects."

Working alongside Parris, Mohamed Hamra-Krouha (Partner, Abu Dhabi) advised on the financing aspects of the project. They were supported by senior associates Andrej Kormuth and Inaamul Laher, associate Jennifer Riddle and trainee solicitor Rezwan Azam.

The Clifford Chance Middle East team continues to advise on some of the region's most prominent power projects including advising on the Gulf of Suez Wind IPP, the Iranian BOO combined-cycle in Iran, the Az Zour North 2 IWPP, and numerous renewable projects in Jordan and Egypt.
