Clifford Chance, MLex to host global antitrust summit in New York

An all-star line up of dignitaries and senior lawyers headline a global antitrust summit being held here on June 7, 2011 at the offices of international law firm Clifford Chance, which is co-hosting the event with leading antitrust law and regulatory media agency MLex. The day-long program, featuring speakers from 10 countries, will cover a number of today's most important antitrust issues and include participation by international antitrust authorities, foreign law firm experts, and antitrust executives at multi-national corporations.

The countries that will be represented on various panels are Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, England, France, Germany, India, Russia, and the United States.

Panelists at the summit include William E. Kovacic, a commissioner of U.S. Federal Trade Commission; John Fingleton, chief executive of the Office of Fair Trading; Mark Siemens, senior counsel of Siemens Corporation; Dr. Andreas Bardong, head of Section Merger Control Policy, Germany Bundeskartellamt; Thomas Kramler, the European Commission's deputy head of Unit for DG Competition; Joshua Soven of the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division; Samir Ghandi of India's Economic Law Practice; Miguel del Pino of Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal; and Caio Mário da Silva Pereira Neto of Brasil Pereira Neto Galdino Macedo.

Panels will also feature several top Clifford Chance partners from around the world, including U.S. Antitrust chair Bill Blumenthal, who was general counsel of the FTC during President George W. Bush's second term; Thomas Vinje, chair of the firm's Global Antitrust Group, who successfully represented plaintiffs in the European antitrust case against Microsoft; Madrid partner Miguel Odriozola, who advised Iberian airline in its merger with British Airways; and London Antitrust chair, Alex Nourry. Clifford Chance partners Ninette Dodoo from Beijing and Torsten Syrbe from Moscow are also attending the summit to share their views.

Topics to be covered include institutional design and possible reforms, transactions in emerging antitrust regulatory regimes, coordinating multijurisdictional transactions, and handling multijurisdictional antitrust investigations and litigations. This summit offers New York State CLE credit.
