Alex specialises in all aspects of EU and UK competition law, including control of mergers and joint ventures, cartels and abuse of market power, market investigations, State aid and public procurement, and the regulation of utilities.
Alex regularly represents clients before the EU and UK competition authorities as well as the European Courts. Alex has worked across a wide range of industry sectors, including communications and IT, consumer goods & retail, financial services, healthcare and transport.
- Advising Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group on their £1.7bn takeover of Virgin Money
- Advising ENGIE on the sale of LNG assets to Total, including advice in relation to merger filings in the EU, Egypt, Japan, China, COMESA and Turkey
- Advising ICAP on the sale of its hybrid-voice broking business to Tullett Prebon and securing Phase I clearance in the UK, US, Australia and Singapore
- Advising Thomson Reuters in relation to the European Commission's investigation under Article 102 TFEU concerning Thomson Reuters licensing practices in relation to Reuters Instrument Codes ("RICs") in the area of consolidated real-time market datafeeds, and the eventual settlement of the investigation
