Clifford Chance partner Jonathan Castelan advises on carbon capture agreement
Houston: Partner Jonathan Castelan has advised ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions on its latest carbon capture and storage agreement with Nucor Corporation, one of North America’s largest steel producers. Under the agreement, ExxonMobil will capture, transport and store up to 800,000 metric tons per year of CO2 from Nucor’s manufacturing site in Convent, Louisiana. It also marks a milestone – bringing the total CO2 ExxonMobil has agreed to transport and store for third-party customers to 5 million metric tons per year (MTA).
Castelan, who recently joined Clifford Chance in its newly-established Houston office, was supported by associate Sam Bentley on the matter.
This matter reflects a continuation of Castelan's work with ExxonMobil, having advised on its two prior carbon capture agreements in the past seven months: with industrial gas company Linde and CF Industries, maker of agricultural fertilizer.
