Clifford Chance advises MASEN on the repowering of the Koudia Al Baïda Wind Farm

Clifford Chance Casablanca acted as special legal adviser to Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) as sponsor and offtaker on the financing of the repowering of the Koudia Al Baida wind farm in the north of Morocco to increase its capacity from 50 MW to 100 MW. The financing of the repowering is provided by EBRD, Société Générale, Attijariwafa Bank, Banque Centrale Populaire and Bank of Africa.

Koudia Al Baïda wind farm is the first independent power producer in Morocco and the oldest industrial scale wind farm in Africa and this repowering is the first of its kind in Morocco as it consists in replacing all of the 90 existing wind turbines with 20 new last generation wind turbines.

This repowering will support Morocco in its transition to a low-carbon economy and is in line with Morocco’s target to produce more than 52% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030.

The Clifford Chance team was led by Ouns Lemseffer, Partner, supported by Youssef Tork and Louis Nerson, Associates.
