Clifford Chance advises Imagination Technologies on its agreement with Apple
International law firm Clifford Chance advised Imagination Technologies, the UK-based company that creates silicon and software intellectual property (IP) designed to give its customers an edge in a competitive global technology market, on its agreement with Apple. The new agreement replaces the previous multi-year, multi-use license agreement, which was first announced in February 2014, and provides Apple access to a wider range of Imagination Technologies IP in exchange for license fees.
The legal aspects of the agreement were led by Imagination Technologies' Alex Jones, Senior Legal Counsel, and Paul Leaves, Director of Patents, working together with a Clifford Chance team including London-based Partners Vanessa Marsland (IP) and Iain White (global restructuring and insolvency group).
Clifford Chance has worked with Imagination Technologies for several years, including on its takeover offer by a subsidiary of funds managed by Canyon Bridge and the sale of its MIPS division to Tallwood MIPS, Inc. in 2017. Clifford Chance's global IP Group is committed to assisting clients handle transactional, advisory and disputes work, as well as deal with IP issues in the course of drafting and negotiating a wider range of transaction documents.
