Clifford Chance welcomes former SFC executive Jimmy Chan to Asia Pacific Litigation & Disputes Resolution team

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announced the addition to its Litigation and Disputes Resolution practice of Jimmy Chan, who will be a partner and commence at the firm in October 2018 in Hong Kong.

Jimmy Chan served at the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for 14 years, most recently as a Director and Head of the International and Policy Team within the Enforcement Division. During this time, Jimmy gained valuable experience and insight into the workings of the agency, having participated in and managed a broad spectrum of international regulatory and enforcement actions, including disciplinary and enforcement proceedings, international cross-border securities litigation and representing the SFC in Securities and Futures Appeals proceedings.

He has an exemplary understanding of the financial market having been deeply involved with international securities regulators, handling cross-border investigatory and enforcement issues with the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Financial Services Agency of Japan, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Securities Commission Malaysia, among others. He also worked closely with Hong Kong domestic regulators including the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Insurance Authority in relation to enforcement and anti-money laundering matters.

Hong Kong Head of Contentious Regulatory Donna Wacker offered, "Both in Hong Kong and across the region, our clients are facing continuing regulatory pressure and enforcement activity, coupled with a noticeable increase in cross border co-operation between regulators. There's an ongoing focus on listed company compliance and corporate governance and therefore, considerable demand for sophisticated contentious regulatory advice and investigations expertise. We're delighted to welcome Jimmy to our practice to deliver insights to our clients in this increasingly complex area."

Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution for Clifford Chance in Asia Pacific Nish Shetty said, "Jimmy's extensive experience working closely with global financial regulators, particularly in the PRC and the US, and in Hong Kong, means that his arrival complements perfectly the way we work across the firm – bringing the best international knowledge to local and global clients."

The firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice is part of a global offering and draws on local and international experience to deliver advice in complex disputes and investigations.
