Clifford Chance advises Partners Group on AU$700 million Australian renewable energy platform investment

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised global private markets investment manager Partners Group on the establishment of its AU$700 million Grassroots Renewable Energy Platform (Grassroots). Grassroots currently holds two wind farm projects (the 270MW Sapphire Wind Farm and the 135MW construction-ready Crudine Wind Farm) and intends to construct more than 1.3 GW of new wind and solar power, and battery storage assets across Australia over the next four years.

Partner Andrew Crook offers, "The renewables market is a hive of activity here in Australia, with investors seeing clean energy as an imperative to driving sustainable economic growth. This reflects what we are seeing across Asia Pacific and we are delighted to continue supporting Partners Group with their investments in this space."

Andrew led a team comprising counsel Reuben Van Werkum and associates Jenny Han and Sara Tan.

Clifford Chance regularly advises on market leading renewables transactions in Asia Pacific including advising on Global Infrastructure Partner's US$5 billion acquisition of Equis Energy, acting on Formosa 1 - the first offshore wind project in Asia, and on the financing of Australia's first integrated solar and energy storage project of scale, a Conergy-sponsored project that received a AUD17.4 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). In January, the firm advised Australian-Chinese developer, owner and operator of renewable power generation assets Maoneng Australia on its entry into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and on related agreements with Origin, who is providing firming and other services to UNSW.
