International Arbitration Lawyer Janet Whittaker Joins Clifford Chance's US Litigation & Dispute Resolution Team
Clifford Chance continues to add depth to US Litigation and Arbitration Practice.
Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announced that Janet Whittaker has joined the Firm's International Arbitration practice as a partner. Whittaker brings a broad array of experience, including acting as Legal Counsel at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Whittaker, who joins Clifford Chance from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, has been involved in international commercial arbitrations under the main arbitration rules concerning different industries, including energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, concessions, IT and private equity. She is also experienced in disputes involving sovereigns under investment treaties and international trade agreements, both as counsel and as a secretary to tribunals. In addition, Whittaker has experience in court proceedings related to arbitrations and in litigation before US federal courts, and advises clients on matters focused on jurisdiction, governing law and international enforcement of judgments and arbitration awards.
Evan Cohen, Regional Managing Partner of the Americas, said, "Janet's addition provides the depth of bilingual arbitration practitioners we increasingly need. Janet's Spanish language skills compliment and support the Firm's Latin America strategy, and we look forward to her teaming up with fellow partner Ignacio Suarez Anzorena to support our growing litigation and investigation work across the region."
David DiBari, Americas Litigation and Disputes Resolution head, said, "We are committed to expanding our US Litigation and Arbitration practice in the US through key lateral hirings and organic growth. Janet is a great addition to our team."
Jason Fry, co-Head of the International Arbitration group said, "Our aim as a global practice is to provide excellent service to our clients worldwide. The Americas is an important market for the arbitration practice and consequently we are very pleased that Janet has decided to join us to strengthen our practice there."
Janet Whittaker said, "I am excited to be joining a firm with an internationally recognized litigation and arbitration practice that leading companies and senior executives routinely call upon to resolve their most contentious issues in the Americas and around the world. Clifford Chance's strong Americas practice and global presence is a natural fit for me and I couldn't be more pleased to be joining a firm with such a strong commitment to its clients."
Whittaker is qualified to practice in England, New York and Washington DC. She is a native English speaker and also speaks French, Italian and Spanish.
