Strategic Partnership between MASEN, ALCEN and the CEA in the Field of Solar Energy
Leading international law firm Clifford Chance advised Masen (Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy) in connection with the negotiation of agreements aiming at putting in place a strategic partnership with the French industrial group Alcen and the Atomic Energy and Sustainable Energies Commission (CEA).
These agreements have resulted not only in Masen's taking a 50% holding alongside the Alcen Group in the share capital of the Moroccan company Alsolen, charged with developing and industrializing projects based on high- and medium-power Fresnel mirror solar thermodynamic technologies, the fruit of a number of years close collaboration between the Alcen Group and the CEA, but also in the signing of extensive R&D agreements seeking to set up between Masen and the CEA a shared research laboratory in the field of solar technologies.
This partnership, based in Morocco, is part of a worldwide ambitious strategy and it is intended that the technologies developed in this way and industrialised will be marketed internationally in countries with high solar potential and energy demands, in particular sub-Saharan Africa.
Masen was advised by Clifford Chance, with a team led by Mustapha Mourahib (Managing Partner, Casablanca) and Inaya Abdellatif-Guillon (Lawyer, Casablanca) for the M&A aspects, assisted by Simonetta Giordano (Counsel, Paris) and Sybille Sculy-Logotheti (Lawyer, Paris) for the intellectual property aspects.
