Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announced that Connie Heng will be the new head of Clifford Chance's Capital Markets Practice in Asia Pacific effective 1 May. Over the past decade, Connie has led on many landmark transactions including the first offshore RMB bond in 2007 for China Development Bank, the Hong Kong Government's first inflation-linked bonds and most recently on the US$6.5 billion offering of additional tier 1 preference shares for Bank of China.

Outgoing head, Crawford Brickley who led the team for ten years, will continue to head the US Securities practice in the region which is made up of 20 US qualified lawyers - six partners and 14 associates. In addition, he will be resuming his primary focus on South East Asia and making Singapore his principal base, where he previously worked for 13 years, in order to bolster the firm's growing South East Asia practice.

Regional Managing Partner Peter Charlton said, "I'm delighted to welcome Connie to our Asia Pacific leadership team. She is a recognised trailblazer in the Capital Markets field and her skills and experience with clients will be well utilised in leading such a busy practice."

"Crawford has been an outstanding leader and has overseen the development of one of the largest Capital Markets practices in the region. We look forward to continuing to work with him as he supports our South East Asia's growing capabilities and client initiatives."

Connie said, "I'm greatly looking forward to working alongside the Capital Markets partners in the region to further develop our market leading capabilities. Our Asia Pacific team's dual strengths in both English and US securities law have served our clients well and continue to distinguish us from our competitors. At the same time, I believe this role will allow me to focus on our client relationships and I look forward to continuing to work with my longstanding clients."

This announcement comes as the firm has recently promoted Angela Chan to partner in Hong Kong, further strengthening the Capital Markets team. Peter added, "The appointment of Angela to partner confirms our commitment to building on our capabilities to provide the best team for our clients."
