Clifford Chance advises Wilmar in connection with the acquisition of 27.5% of Cosumar
Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised Wilmar International, Asia's leading agribusiness group, in its purchase from Société Nationale d'Investissement of a 27.5% equity stake in Cosumar, a company listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange and third largest producer of sugar in Africa. The transaction amounted to MAD2.3 billion (approximately USD263 million).
Wilmar International is a worldwide leader in the edible oils and sugar business, from origination to distribution and is present in over 50 countries. With a market capitalization of USD18 billion, the group is ranked amongst the largest listed companies by market capitalisation on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Its worldwide turnover for FY2012 was USD45 billion.
The Clifford Chance legal team advising Wilmar International was led by Casablanca Partner Mustapha Mourahib, who was assisted by Christophe Bachelet (counsel) and Chloe Joachim-de Larivière (associate). Advice was also provided by Paris partner Gilles Lebreton and Thibaut Cambuzat (counsel).

Le cabinet d'avocats d'affaires international Clifford Chance a conseillé Wilmar International, leader asiatique de l'agro-industrie, dans le cadre de l'achat, auprès de la Société Nationale d'Investissement, de 27,5% de Cosumar, société cotée à la bourse des valeurs de Casablanca et troisième producteur de sucre d'Afrique. Le montant de la transaction s'élève à 2,3 milliards de dirhams, soit environ 263 millions de dollars.
Le groupe Wilmar International occupe une position prépondérante dans les activités de production et de commercilisation d'huiles alimentaires et de sucre et est présent dans plus de 50 pays. Avec une capitalisation boursière de 18 milliards de dollars, le groupe est l'une des premières valeurs de la bourse de Singapour. Son chiffre d'affaires mondial a atteint 45 milliards de dollars en 2012.
Sur cette opération, Wilmar International était conseillé par Clifford Chance à Casablanca avec Mustapha Mourahib (associé), Christophe Bachelet (counsel) et Chloé Joachim-de Larivière (collaboratrice) et à Paris par Gilles Lebreton (associé) et Thibaut Cambuzat (counsel).
