Clifford Chance advises Wellington Partners on successful fundraising for EUR 210 million life science fund
International law firm Clifford Chance advised Wellington Partners on its successful fundraising for its fifth fund, Wellington Partners Life Science Fund V (WPLS-V). The fund was closed at EUR 210 million, making it the largest life science fund of Wellington Partners to date.
Wellington Partners is a leading European venture capital firm investing in early stage and growth life science companies. WPLS-V will build a portfolio of approximately 15-20 firms active in the field of biotechnology or developing new therapeutics and medical devices. Selected investments in diagnostics and digital medicine are also part of the investment strategy. The geographic focus is on Europe, in particular the German-speaking countries. In addition, selective investments in North America or Asia are also being considered. WPLS-V attracted many new renowned investors such as KfW Capital, Talanx and US-based UTIMCO, the University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Company. Existing investors such as the European Investment Fund and the European Investment Bank also participated.

Die internationale Anwaltssozietät Clifford Chance hat Wellington Partners bei ihrem erfolgreichen Fundraising für ihren fünften Fonds, Wellington Partners Life Science Fund V (WPLS-V), beraten. Der Fonds wurde mit 210 Millionen Euro geschlossen und ist damit der größte bisherige Life-Science-Fonds von Wellington Partners.
Wellington Partners ist ein führendes europäisches Venture-Capital-Unternehmen, das in Life-Science-Firmen investiert, die sich in der Früh- und Wachstumsphase befinden. Die Mittel aus WPLS-V sollen für ein Portfolio aus rund 15 bis 20 Unternehmen aufgewendet werden, die im Bereich Biotechnologie tätig sind oder neue Therapiemöglichkeiten und medizinische Hilfsmittel entwickeln. Ausgewählte Investitionen in Diagnostik und digitale Gesundheit sind ebenfalls Teil der Investmentstrategie. Der geographische Fokus liegt dabei auf Europa, insbesondere dem deutschsprachigen Raum. Darüber hinaus werden auch vereinzelte Investitionen in Nordamerika oder Asien in Betracht gezogen. WPLS-V gewann viele neue namhafte Investoren wie KfW Capital, Talanx und die US-amerikanische UTIMCO, die University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Company, hinzu. Bestehende Investoren wie der Europäische Investmentfonds und die Europäische Investitionsbank beteiligten sich ebenfalls.
