Clifford Chance advises EQT on the acquisition of leading Maltese telecom operator Melita
International law firm Clifford Chance has advised EQT Infrastructure IV (“EQT”) on the acquisition of the leading Maltese telecom operator Melita Limited ("Melita") from Apax Partners and Fortino Capital.
Melita was founded in 1991 and is a fully converged and diversified telecommunication infrastructure owner as well as a leading services provider in Malta. Melita services consumers, business and government customers on Malta with mainly four types of products: nationwide Gigabit broadband services for households and small businesses, mobile and fixed telephony as well as TV services.
With the transaction EQT Infrastructure will support Melita’s growth by further upgrading its fixed and mobile networks and opening an additional data centre location on Malta. It will also support Melita’s internationalization strategy including its expansion in Italy as well as its innovative IoT connectivity proposition.
EQT is a leading investment firm with more than EUR 61 billion in raised capital across 29 funds and around EUR 40 billion in assets under management. EQT funds have portfolio companies in Europe, Asia and the US with total sales of more than EUR 19 billion and approximately 110,000 employees.

Die internationale Anwaltssozietät Clifford Chance hat EQT Infrastructure IV ("EQT") bei der Übernahme des führenden maltesischen Telekommunikationsunternehmens Melita Limited ("Melita") von Apax Partners und Fortino Capital beraten.
Melita wurde 1991 gegründet und ist der führender Telekommunikationsdienstleister auf Malta. Zu den Kunden zählen sowohl Endverbraucher als auch Geschäfts- und Regierungskunden. Die Produktpalette umfasst landesweite Gigabit-Breitbanddienste für Haushalte und kleine Unternehmen, Mobil- und Festnetztelefonie sowie TV-Dienste.
Im Zuge der Übernahme wird EQT das Wachstum von Melita durch den weiteren Ausbau der Fest- und Mobilfunknetze sowie die Eröffnung eines zusätzlichen Rechenzentrums auf Malta unterstützen. Zudem plant EQT, die Internationalisierungsstrategie von Melita weiter voranzutreiben, so zum Beispiel durch die Expansion in Italien und das innovative IoT (Internet of Things) Angebot.
