Clifford Chance hires new partner Andrew Patterson to join its leading Incentives practice

International law firm Clifford Chance has appointed Andrew Patterson as a partner in the firm's leading Incentives practice.

Patterson, who joins today, was previously Head of Incentives Law at Barclays, where he advised the bank on global incentives and remuneration issues. He originally trained at City firm Ashurst and practiced as an incentives lawyer there until his move to Barclays in 2010.

Chris Davies, Global Practice Area Leader for Tax, Pensions, and Employment at Clifford Chance comments: "Andrew has a fantastic track record in advising on incentives and remuneration issues at the highest level and during a time of unprecedented change in the regulation of remuneration. We are delighted to have him joining the team here. This work is of increasing importance for many companies and stakeholders , and cuts to the heart of high-profile issues such as governance, culture, employee talent retention, and incentivising long-term, responsible business strategies."

Patterson adds: "Sonia Gilbert and the rest of the Clifford Chance Incentives team have a deserved reputation at the top of the market and I am delighted to be joining them. Employee incentivisation and remuneration continues to be a key focus for companies, shareholders and regulators across the globe, particularly given the increasing regulation and reputational risk that surrounds pay. I am looking forward to working with the team to help clients in all sectors tackle the challenges that I have seen first-hand during my time at Barclays and implement arrangements to deliver on their strategies."

Clifford Chance's incentives practice is a market leader in share plans and incentives advice. The firm has a team of experienced lawyers in London, New York and Paris dedicated to this work and more than 100 lawyers advising on incentives matters in our offices around the globe. The team advises many of the world's leading businesses on all types of incentives arrangements and remuneration issues.
