Julian Acratopulo elected President of the London Solicitors Litigation Association
Clifford Chance's Head of International Commercial Litigation, Julian Acratopulo has been elected as President of the London Solicitors Litigation Association (LSLA) and will serve for two years in his role.
Julian takes the reins of the LSLA at a time of significant reform to London’s court processes that aims to establish an accessible modern civil justice system for individuals, SMEs and international litigants, particularly given the challenge to London’s litigation crown posed by Brexit.
Commenting on his new role, Julian said:
“The LSLA is a strong voice on behalf of civil litigators in what is a time of fundamental change to our legal system.
I am delighted to have been elected as the President of the Association and I am very much looking forward to what is an exciting and challenging role. With 29 March 2019 looming, uncertainty abounds and many litigators remain concerned about the recognition and enforceability of UK judgments post-Brexit and predict a significant flight of work away to other jurisdictions or tribunals. We have recently seen the new international commercial court opening in Paris, and the Netherlands Commercial Court slated to open this year. However, with the implementation of reforms, particularly in the sphere of disclosure, London, with its highly regarded judiciary applying well established English law precedent, is well placed to meet these challenges head on and to retain its position as the world’s pre-eminent litigation centre."
