Clifford Chance elects 26 new partners

Daniel Royle and Paul Coates promoted to partnership in the Middle East
Yasser Al-Hussain promoted to partner at AS&H in cooperation with Clifford Chance in Riyadh

Leading international law firm, Clifford Chance, today announced the promotion of 26 lawyers to the partnership. The new partners are drawn from all of the firm's market-leading practices, and from across the firm's global network, including Daniel Royle and Paul Coates, based in the Middle East.

Matthew Layton, Clifford Chance Global Managing Partner comments, "I am delighted to welcome to the partnership a group of particularly talented senior lawyers. Each of them has established their credentials as a go-to advisor for clients by virtue of their well-recognised expertise and excellent client service skills. They share a strong international mindset – 80% of the group has already worked in more than one of our offices globally. The make-up of this group also demonstrates the breadth and diversity that will underpin our future success. I look forward to working with them over the coming years as they help drive our progress in a fast-shifting legal landscape."

Joining the team are:

  • Daniel Royle, who will be seconded as a partner to the Corporate practice at AS&H in Riyadh. Daniel is trusted adviser to international companies and Saudi entities and continues to drive the growth of our practice in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which operates in cooperation with AS&H.
  • Paul Coates, who becomes a partner in the Middle East Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice, based in Dubai. Paul returns to the Dubai Litigation & Dispute Resolution team from our London office, having previously spent four and a half years based in our Dubai team. He has a broad range of experience and will focus in particular on the growing regional demands for construction and projects disputes expertise.

In addition, Yasser Al-Hussain has been promoted to partner at AS&H in Riyadh. Yasser heads the Banking and Finance practice at AS&H. He has extensive experience advising on a broad range of banking and finance matters including project finance, bilateral and syndicated lending transactions as well as representing international and Saudi claimants in litigation, arbitration and enforcement proceedings.

Regional Managing Partner, Middle East, Robin Abraham added, "We are thrilled to welcome two new partners to our Middle East team and to extend our congratulations to Yasser at AS&H in Riyadh. Our new appointments reflect the continued success and leadership position that Clifford Chance holds in the Middle East markets, including through our co-operation with AS&H Law Firm in Saudi Arabia. Daniel, Paul and Yasser are highly respected by our clients and by their colleagues and these promotions enable us to continue to build on our market leading platform in the Middle East. We wish them every success."

Globally, the promotions add further partner capability in a wide range of areas that are increasingly critical for clients, such as Tech, antitrust, pensions, restructuring and insolvency, as well as strategically important practices such as M&A, Funds, contentious disputes, project and structured finance.
