Senior Federal Prosecutor Daniel Silver Joins Clifford Chance's Americas Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice
Silver Served as Chief of the National Security and Cybercrime Section and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York
NEW YORK, March 1, 2016 — Clifford Chance today announced that Daniel Silver, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY), has joined the firm's Americas Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as a partner. The addition of Silver further strengthens Clifford Chance's growing U.S. white-collar and regulatory defense team based in New York and Washington, D.C., and expands its leading international platform.
Silver spent nearly ten years working on a wide array of high-profile cases as a federal prosecutor, including economic sanctions, anti-corruption and anti-money laundering investigations tied to international financial institutions. He led the EDNY’s investigation and prosecution of a major global bank for anti-money laundering and sanctions violations, which resulted in a $1.9 billion dollar criminal forfeiture and a five-year corporate monitorship. Silver also recently first-chaired a six-week jury trial in which three individual defendants were convicted of supplying controlled technology to the Russian military – one of the most complex criminal export control trials ever mounted by the Justice Department.
During his tenure in government Silver supervised a team of more than 100 federal prosecutors and ran the EDNY’s cyber-security program – an increasing area of risk for all companies, domestic and international.
"Dan is a tremendous fit for our practice. He adds immediately to our already strong economic sanctions and anti-money laundering practice at a time when we expect increasing demands from our clients for current and practical advice in the wake of Implementation Day under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)," said Americas Litigation & Dispute Resolution head David DiBari. "Dan's arrival also bolsters our cyber-security risk management offering and provides us with additional depth and breadth; we couldn't be happier to add him to our team."
"I'm excited to be joining a firm with an internationally recognized white-collar and regulatory practice that is frequently engaged by leading companies and senior executives, both in the US and around the world," said Silver. "Increasingly, U.S. and foreign regulators work in tandem to conduct cross-border investigations. It was important to me to find a firm that had the right platform to advise multinationals in this new environment – one where my experience conducting cross-border investigations and insights into US enforcement trends can benefit a large global client base. Clifford Chance is a natural fit for me and I'm eager to get started."
In 2014, Silver was recognized by the New York City Bar Association as the EDNY Criminal Division winner of the prestigious Henry L. Stimson Medal, an annual award which honors the most outstanding Assistant US Attorneys from the Southern and Eastern Districts. In 2013, Silver won the FBI Director’s Award for outstanding performance in a counterintelligence investigation.
"We are pleased to welcome Dan as our newest Clifford Chance partner," said Americas Regional Managing Partner Evan Cohen. "The continuing expansion of our Litigation practice is a strategic priority for us. Dan has a stellar reputation in the market and is a great addition to our firm."
Silver earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1999 and graduated magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2002.
