Perth: Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised City Farmers on the A$93 million investment by Quadrant Private Equity for a majority stake in the company's pet retail chain in Australia.

City Farmers is a leading specialty retailer of pet food, supplies and products with a current portfolio of 31 large format stores. The store network is primarily in Perth with an emerging presence in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Quadrant Private Equity is one of the leading private equity firms in the Australian market, with A$1.5 billion of funds under management and investments in 51 businesses.

"While headlines may focus on activity levels in the resources sector, we are seeing increased interest in other sectors, such as retail, leisure, general industrials and media," said partner Michael Lishman who led the team advising City Farmers.  "Private equity is continuing to assess and invest in strong Australian businesses with growth potential."

Michael was assisted by senior associate Sean Houthuysen. Both are based in Perth.
