Clifford Chance advises SensoMotoric Instruments on the sale of its ophthalmic business unit
Clifford Chance advised SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) on the sale of its ophthalmic business unit to WaveLight, a company belonging to the Alcon Group. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
SMI is a leading manufacturer of dedicated computer vision applications. The company has offices in Teltow (Germany) and Boston (USA) and closely cooperates with local partners in various other countries. The ophthalmic business unit includes the development, manufacturing and marketing of eye and gaze tracking systems used in refractive laser surgery as well as diagnostic and surgery guidance products for cataract surgery.
The Clifford Chance team was led by partner Dr. Thomas Krecek and comprised counsel Jörg Rhiel and transaction lawyer Moritz Erdmann (all Corporate, Frankfurt) as well as partner Dr. Claudia Milbradt and senior associate Dr. Wolfgang Schönig (both IP, Düsseldorf).

Die internationale Anwaltssozietät Clifford Chance hat SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) beim Verkauf des Ophthalmologie-Geschäftsbereichs an WaveLight, ein Unternehmen der Alcon-Gruppe, beraten. Über den Kaufpreis haben die Parteien Stillschweigen vereinbart.
SMI ist ein führender Anbieter für ausgewählte Anwendungen des computerunterstützten Sehens. Das Unternehmen unterhält Standorte in Teltow/Deutschland und Boston/USA und kooperiert mit lokalen Partnern in zahlreichen weiteren Ländern. Der Ophthalmologie-Geschäftsbereich umfasst die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Systemen zur Messung von Augenbewegungen (Eyetracking), die in der refraktiven Laserchirurgie verwendet werden, sowie von Diagnoseprodukten und unterstützenden Systemen für die Kataraktchirurgie.
