Clifford Chance celebrates 30 years in Singapore

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance  will celebrate 30 years in Singapore on 26 May, with celebrations for clients and local charities.

As part of the celebration, three Singapore charities – Breadline, KK Regional Outreach to Kids and Mercy Relief - will each receive S$10,000 towards their activities.

"We opened in Singapore in 1981 with a handful of lawyers and a lot of ambition, a desire to excel in our field, and a commitment to the broader community here," said Singapore Managing Partner Geraint Hughes.

"As the fastest growing international legal practice in the region, we now have close to 90 lawyers in Singapore – which is one of the most successful offices in our global network - and ambitious plans for growing our practice further in south and south east Asia."

Clifford Chance was one of only six international firm's awarded a Qualified Foreign Law Practice licence by the government in 2008.  "The ability to practise Singapore and international law to the highest standard across a wide range of areas has been very well received by our clients," said Geraint.

"It has also allowed many of the high quality Singaporean lawyers trained within our global network to return home to share their international expertise and practise Singapore and international law. The firm currently recruits local graduates for the global firm and looks forward to further liberalisation in this market so that we can offer local training contracts in due course."

"Singapore has enjoyed tremendous growth in the last three years and we've been privileged to be a part of that. Our team is busy working for clients across the region and in countries and continents beyond south east Asia, and we provide a global centre of excellence across sectors and products such as energy, commodities, wealth management, and transportation and logistics."

"Underpinning this success is our community, both within our office and the broader community in Singapore. Our lawyers and staff are committed and enthusiastic supporters of charity work and fundraising. Naturally, no birthday would be complete without gifts and, in this case, we're passing on our birthday wishes to three charities with which we're very familiar, and very proud to support in this way."
