Clifford Chance appointed as project counsel to advise Lukoil Mid-East on the development of the West Qurna II oil field in Iraq

Clifford Chance has been awarded the second phase of legal services for the West Qurna II project.  Lukoil and its partner Statoil are developing this giant oil field located near Basra in the South of Iraq which is planned, at peak production levels, to produce 1.8 million bopd - more oil than is currently produced in the entire North Sea. 

Clifford Chance has been appointed on this project since June 2010 and has been advising the operator in relation to the EPC contracts for the early production facilities, drilling contracts and the procurement of ancillary works and services for the development of the field.
