Virtual Pride Art Gallery 2021 – Tokyo

Our Virtual Pride celebrations

Clifford Chance is pleased to present our annual Pride Art Exhibition 2021 in Tokyo. Following an absence in 2020 due to the challenges presented by COVID19, the exhibition returns this year, once again transforming the space in our Tokyo office into an art gallery, showcasing the talented artists and curators with whom we have partnered for this unique event.

The 2021 exhibition has been curated by our Arcus Tokyo Chapter lead, Haruka Ozaki. With the cooperation of Masashi Ozaki Print Studio, we are proud to present 7 new lithographs and 2 new monoprints specially produced for this exhibition. The works you see below showcase diverse artists actively capturing the essence of Japan's vibrant LGBT+ community.

We will continue to work with diverse and talented artists in Japan and look forward to hosting Arcus Pride Art in our office and welcoming you in person again soon.

今後も才能あふれるアーティストとのコラボレーションを続け、プライドアートを開催し、またお客様をお迎えできることを楽しみにしております。

What is Arcus for Clifford Chance?

Arcus is our global LGBT+ community. Derived from the Latin for rainbow, Arcus is a powerful symbol of inclusivity and diversity that seeks to promote a culture where employees feel comfortable about being open about their sexual orientation. We also have an Arcus Allies programme for employees who do not necessarily identify as LGBT+ but who wish to act as advocates for equal rights and fair treatment of LGBT+ colleagues.

Global message: Arcus Pride Art so far

At Clifford Chance, we are committed to providing a workplace where people can be themselves, without fear of exclusion or discrimination. We educate, we listen, and we have strong corporate governance around inclusion and diversity. Through the firm's LGBT+ network Arcus, and our allies community, we engage in LGBT+ pro bono work and community partnerships. We do this because it is important to our employees, their families, our firm and our society.

Our annual Arcus Pride Art exhibition has become one of the largest corporate supported exhibitions of art works by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT+) and supporter artists. It is a truly global celebration, with virtual events and exhibitions taking place across the Firm's global network since 2020. This year's events marks the 15th for the firm, since our first exhibition in New York in 2007. View our Virtual Pride galleries from around the globe.

The Tokyo office held the first pride art exhibition in 2018. The innovative event of transforming a simple office space normally used as conference rooms into a gorgeous art gallery for only one night has attracted a lot of attention. In 2019, we also collaborated with JPMorgan and we moved the exhibition to their office in Marunouchi following the event in our office.

While many Pride events have been cancelled or postponed since the outbreak of COVID-19, campaigning for equality, educating and sharing best practice continue, of which we are proud to be part of.
