Why join the firm in Poland?

Poland's economy has been central and eastern Europe's star performer. In 2003 foreign direct investment hit a high USD$6.4 billion. Inward investment is booming across a range of sectors, including banking and telecoms. NATO membership, combined with the EU accession in May 2004, has put Poland firmly on the international map. Ongoing economic liberalisation, improving business environment and reform is in the pipeline, and there is a clear political commitment to the country's flagship privatisation programme.

Experiencing strong organic growth

Clifford Chance ranks amongst the market leaders in banking, finance, capital markets, projects, corporate, real estate and private equity. This is a large, predominantly Polish, office which is experiencing strong organic growth. This is a full-service operation, with a balanced mix of substantial domestic and international clients.

As part of the global firm's international network we tap into an unrivalled store of know-how and expertise ensuring that we reflect cross-border investment flows. We are the only firm to combine strength-in-depth in Poland with such broad-based international capability.

Top-end, high-value deals

Clifford Chance has grown in Poland on the back of finance, corporate/commercial and property work. Warsaw managing partner Nick Fletcher explains: "We are especially busy now on real estate matters, energy and telecoms sector privatisations, private equity and finance matters. All our work is very focused on top-end, high-value deals."

The private equity practice, part of the firm's top-rated global group, is particularly exciting - Poland's internet revolution is just taking off, and the office has been in the thick of the successful deals to date. Headline deals for the office include advising the State Treasury on the second phase of its disposal of Telekomunikacja Polska (the state-controlled telecoms operator), SwissAir on its acquisition of LOT, Nordzucker on its investment in the Polish sugar industry and the Republic of Poland's recent high profile bond issue.
