Italy implements the GDPR

On 19 September 2018, Legislative Decree no. 101/2018 enters into force. By way of the Decree, Italy is updating its Personal Data Protection Code following the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation. The new version of the Italian Code refers to the GDPR as the key regulation for the processing of personal data, which must respect human dignity and fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons. The new Decree also makes significant reforms in relation to administrative and criminal fines and makes the resolution of pending sanctions proceedings easier.
