Clifford Chance grows Fund Finance offering with appointment of counsel Steven Starr in New York

Global law firm Clifford Chance has hired Steven Starr as counsel in the firm's Global Financial Markets practice, further strengthening its fund finance capabilities.

Starr has extensive experience representing borrowers and lenders in fund finance transactions, including in connection with NAV loans, subscription lines, and credit facilities for 40 Act funds. Starr has also advised clients on a wide variety of other financing transactions, including receivables purchase facilities, leveraged finance, operating company facilities, private credit, factoring, marketplace lending facilities, consumer and student loan financings, and margin loans.

Michael Sabin, partner and co-head of the US Funds & Investment Management practice, said, "We are delighted Steven has joined our fund finance team. Our US Funds team is thriving, and the deep fund finance experience he brings is what our most sophisticated investment manager clients require."

Starr said, "I am very excited to join a firm with such impressive global funds and finance practices. I chose to build my career in fund finance because it bridges fund and finance practices, and I am eager to work with these two stellar practice groups at Clifford Chance to help grow the firm’s practice in the US."

Starr is the firm's 12th senior hire so far in the US in 2024, following the appointments of US Tax partner Todd Lowther, Energy M&A counsel Joclynn Marsh, Corporate M&A partner Chang-Do Gong, Insurance M&A counsel Dave Marley, Antitrust counsel Lauren Rackow, Corporate M&A counsel Joshua Bernard, Restructuring & Insolvency partners Brian Lohan and Maja Zerjal Fink, and Energy & Infrastructure partners Ty'Meka M. Reeves-Sobers and Marcia Hook.
