Ignacio Suárez Anzorena returns to Clifford Chance as International Arbitration partner

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announced that Ignacio Suárez Anzorena has returned to the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C., where he will practice international arbitration in the Americas region.

Mr. Suárez Anzorena principally focuses on traditional commercial arbitration, such as contractual disputes, as well as investor-State disputes – for example, claims brought under bilateral investment treaties and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) – for which he is a recognized specialist.  His arrival further strengthens the worldwide arbitration capabilities of Clifford Chance, which earlier this year announced that Jason Fry, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration, is to return to the firm's International Arbitration Group in September.  Mr. Fry will co-head the group with Audley Sheppard from Paris.

A native of Argentina, Mr. Suárez Anzorena has worked specifically on matters relating to companies, investors and governments in Europe, South America and the United States.  He is fluent in Spanish and English, and proficient in Portuguese and French.  Mr. Suárez Anzorena returns to Clifford Chance from Chadbourne & Parke, where he was a partner in the International Dispute Resolution practice since August 2009.  Before that, he spent five years with Clifford Chance in London and Washington, D.C.  Admitted in New York and Argentina, Mr. Suárez Anzorena earned a law degree, Diploma de Honor, from the University of Buenos Aires, and an LL.M from Harvard Law School.

"We are very pleased to welcome Ignacio back to our firm," said David DiBari, head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution for Clifford Chance in the Americas.  "A large number of the arbitrations we've been involved in as a firm are related to South America, where Ignacio has an outstanding reputation in the market.  His return also furthers our strategic focus in growing our excellent Latin American practice, and his experience and relationships will also benefit our highly-regarded energy and infrastructure team."

Mr. Suárez Anzorena has represented clients in arbitrations before a variety of tribunals, most notably, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).  Last year, he was recognized by Global Arbitration Review as one of the world's top arbitration practitioners under the age of 45.

Mr. Sheppard, global head of the firm's Arbitration Group, said: "I look forward to working with Ignacio again.  His experience and expertise in investment treaty and ICSID will be a major benefit to our clients."
