Clifford Chance announces winner of its U.S. "Passport" contest
Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announced that Samuel Park of Georgetown University Law Center will have a $2,500 donation made in his name to the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, a global, grassroots effort to raise awareness and funding to fight malaria, a leading cause of death among children in Africa. Mr. Park, who will also receive a $250 gift card for personal use, is the winner of the special "Passport" contest Clifford Chance designed this year as part of its recruiting efforts at U.S. law schools.
One hundred and fifty marketing documents modeled after U.S. passports were created by the firm and handed out to students earlier this year at the following law schools: Columbia, Cornell, Fordham, Georgetown, Harvard, New York University, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Each "passport" contained both information about Clifford Chance and a special number that could be entered into the firm's U.S. recruiting website. The winning number, selected randomly, was Mr. Park's passport No. 88.
"There are many positive messages we can deliver about this firm – 34 offices in 24 countries, more Chambers Tier 1 cross-border rankings than any other firm, nearly 60,000 pro bono and volunteer hours delivered globally last year, to name just a few highlights," said Clifford Chance partner Nick Williams, co-chair of the U.S. Hiring Committee. "The challenge for us was finding a way to both simplify and personalize these types of messages during our recruiting trips, while also underscoring the most important and unique aspects of our firm. I think the Passport program helped us deliver against those goals in a fun and memorable way, while also supporting a very worthwhile charity."
This is the second donation Clifford Chance has made to Nothing But Nets in the past year. Partner Kate McCarthy, who works in the firm's D.C. office, directed a £3,000 donation made in her name to the charity after receiving a Clifford Chance Corporate Responsibility award following a global vote of firm employees. Ms. McCarthy was honored for leading a legal team in developing a funding agreement to help the Zambian government protect children from malaria.
