Short-time work ("Kurzarbeit") during the corona crisis

To allow for a temporary reduction in personnel costs and to provide an additional means for safeguarding jobs during the economic and operational downturn caused by Covid-19, the German legislator has issued new rules facilitating the application of so called "short-time work" (Kurzarbeit ). With retroactive effect from 1 March 2020 it has introduced important changes which lower the thresholds for state-sponsored short-time work allowances until 31 December 2020.
