Antitrust in China and across the region: Quarterly Update July to September 2015

3 February 2016

In brief:

MOFCOM stepped up enforcement against failure to file, with four new cases publicly announced.  There have also been some organizational changes made within MOFCOM which should streamline the review process and enable MOFCOM to keep pace with the increasing number of filings.

The level of enforcement in China is down from last quarter – with only one case (Dongfeng-Nissan) attracting a significant penalty.

Outside China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are consulting on amendments to their competition regimes, whilst Hong Kong, the Philippines, Laos and Thailand are moving towards the introduction of competition law.
