Fintech: The Evolving French Regulatory Landscape

As part of the EU Digital Finance Package, the European Commission published a proposal for the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) in September 2020.

A provisionally agreed draft of MiCA was released in June 2022, and approved by the Council of the European Union's Committee of Permanent Representatives and by the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in October 2022 and is expected to be published in the Official Journal of the EU in early 2023. MiCA aims at establishing a dedicated and harmonised regulatory framework for the offering of crypto-assets and related provision of services upon them. The existing digital assets regulatory framework in force in France will be replaced by MiCA.
