Sohini Kar-Purkayastha

Sohini is a partner in our project development and finance practice. Sohini regularly advises project sponsors and developers, as well as lenders including export credit agencies, multi-lateral institutions and commercial banks in relation to large scale project development and financing transactions, including corporate/hybrid financings and restructurings. Sohini's expertise is in project documents, project finance documents and joint venture arrangements, focusing on the energy, infrastructure and natural resources sectors. With the energy transition, her practice has expanded to the new technologies driving the transition. In terms of jurisdiction, Sohini has a broad practice, working most recently in the Middle East, Turkey, India and Northern Europe. Sohini is a steering committee member of the UK delegation that forms the UK-India Infrastructure Finance Initiative (UKIIFB).

Sohini completed a client secondment to Koç Holding A.S., Turkey's largest industrial conglomerate in 2013-2014.

Sohini holds an LLB from the London School of Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in World Trade Law from the Central European University. Qualified to practise in England, she speaks French, Bengali, and Hindi.

  • Advising Globeleq, Africa’s leading independent power company, and its consortium partners on the development and financing of the 450MW gas fired Temane power project in Mozambique.
  • Advising TAV Tunisia and its shareholders on its groundbreaking debt restructuring resulting in its senior debt and hedge accounts totaling €435.1m being partly repaid at a discount and partly converted into senior debt and Tunisian participating shares giving the right to the lenders to excess cashflows of TAV Tunisia after debt service.
  • Advising lenders (including EIB, EBRD, Proparco, MUFG, Siemens, ICBC and DEG Investitions) on the financing of the integrated health campus in Bursa, west Turkey.
  • Acting for the lenders (including IFC, EBRD, EIB, FMO, Proparco, K-Sure) in connection with all EnerjiSA power portfolio financings (over 4,000MW of greenfield development) including the Phase 1 portfolio financing (11 power plants, including one CCGT and 9 HEPP and one WPP), the Phase 2 portfolio financing (4 power plants, including one CCGT, two HEPP and one WPP), the Tufanbeyli lignite-fired power plant and mine, the Arkun HEPP, the Bares WPP and the Alpaslan II HEPP.
