James advises private and public companies on corporate matters and strategic transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures and other commercial arrangements. He also has broad experience advising energy companies and mining majors on matters relating to approvals, project development, logistics and transport, offtake, compliance and carbon-abatement.

  • Partners Group on its acquisition of Life Cycle Power from an investment partnership owned by Arroyo Investors.
  • Anglo American on the divestment of its Australian steelmaking coal business to Peabody Energy for up to US$3.775 billion and the sale of its interest in Jellinbah Group for ~US$1.1 billion.*
  • Rio Tinto on its collaboration with Sumitomo Corporation on hydrogen pilot plant at the Yarwun alumina refinery.*
  • Several mining majors on acquisitions, divestments and restructures of mining portfolios in Queensland and Western Australia.*
