Funmilayo Fenwa advises development finance institutions, multilateral agencies and commercial banks on complex, cross‑border energy and infrastructure projects, including project development, project finance, security structuring, and execution across multiple jurisdictions. Her practice focuses on project finance, corporate finance, and other cross-border development finance transactions.

Before practising in the United States, Funmilayo gained experience at a leading Nigerian law firm, where she advised sponsors and lenders on complex energy project financings across Sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Advised U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and Development Bank of Southern Africa, in relation to the circa US$553 million financing for the development of the circa 1,300 km Lobito‑Luau railway and associated infrastructure in the Republic of Angola.
  • Advised U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, in relation to the circa US$292 million financing for the development, construction and operation of a thermal power project in the Republic of Sierra Leone.
  • Advised U.S. International Development Finance Corporation in relation to the US$81 million financing for the construction and operation of hotels in Dakar, Senegal.
  • Advised OPEC Fund, FMO and IFC in relation to the transfer of loans arising from a prior financing of a hotel and mall complex in Accra, Ghana.
