Charlotte Spierings

Charlotte Spierings specializes in commercial litigation, with a focus on class actions. She has expertise in commercial contract law, EU consumer law and financial law. She also has experience in sanctions advice, insolvency litigation and director's liability cases. Charlotte holds a Ph.D from Radboud University Nijmegen and remains active as an author and speaker in the field of contract law and class actions. As a litigator, she represents clients in complex disputes, often with a regulatory enforcement angle and/or a cross-border element.

  • Representing a retail bank in group litigation proceedings on the unfairness of certain terms in consumer credit agreements.
  • Acting head of legal of a Dutch subsidiary of an international retail bank in the wind-down of its operations.
  • Representing a FMCG company in a consumer class action regarding product liability.
  • Representing a multinational energy company in litigation against third party intermediaries for alleged mis-selling of energy contracts.
  • Advising multiple clients on EU sanctions regulations and obtaining export licenses.
  • Representing a consortium of banks in the restructuring and insolvency of a major Dutch sports retail company and subsequent litigation against the bankruptcy trustees​.
