Yvonne specialises in international commercial arbitration and commercial litigation.

Yvonne has practiced in the greater China and Asia Pacific region for more than 12 years. Her practice is focused on private equity, shareholder and joint venture disputes, as well as complex fraud and insolvency-related litigation. Yvonne regularly represents leading financial institutions, private equity firms and global corporate clients in multi-jurisdictional matters involving mainland China, Singapore, Vietnam, continental Europe, the UK and the United States.

Yvonne has handled numerous arbitrations including under the HKIAC, ICC, CIETAC and UNCITRAL rules. She acts as counsel and is regularly appointed as arbitrator in ICC and HKIAC cases. Yvonne is on the HKIAC’s List of Arbitrators.

International commercial arbitration

  • Advising two global investment banks in an arbitration conducted under Hong Kong and PRC laws, in connection with a USD 200 million dispute arising in connection with their investment in a copper manufacturing company and the exercise of put option rights. The proceedings included successful emergency arbitration proceedings for various forms of urgent interim relief.
  • Acting for a group of private equity funds in a shareholder dispute over control of a Vietnam joint venture and related fraud claims. The matter involved arbitration under the UNCITRAL Rules with successful applications to the Hong Kong and Singapore courts for urgent interim relief, parallel civil and criminal proceedings in Vietnam, and a receivership application over an offshore holding company.
  • Acting for a Chinese state-owned investment fund in HKIAC arbitration for USD 60 million claims arising out of the fund’s oil and gas joint venture in Africa. The proceedings included a successful application for interim relief from a PRC court, and was one of the first cases involving parallel enforcement of an award before the Hong Kong and PRC courts.
  • Representing an aeronautical company in various joint venture disputes and ICC arbitrations with business partners in Hong Kong, mainland China and France.
  • Acting for the investors of an electric vehicle joint venture in a USD2 billion shareholder dispute involving HKIAC emergency arbitrator proceedings and corporate disputes over board control in the United States, China and other jurisdictions.
  • Advising a crypto derivatives trading platform in relation to disputes against a number of early round investors in HKIAC arbitration with related offshore court restructuring proceedings.

Commercial litigation

  • Acting for the joint liquidators of 11 entities related to one of the world's largest seafood companies in investigating and pursuing Hong Kong court action arising from a USD5.5 billion trade finance fraud against former directors and entities connected to them, with related Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States.
  • Advising and representing the joint liquidators of a Cayman mutual fund in pursuing Hong Kong court action against the former fund manager and investment manager for breaches of duties and negligence, with parallel proceedings in the Cayman Islands and related applications for recognition orders from the Hong Kong court.
  • Acting for a data centre developer and operator in USD 100 million multi-jurisdictional claims arising out of the operation of custom-built data centres in Hong Kong, Singapore and Frankfurt. The dispute involved a series of complex service agreements, novation agreements and guarantees, and the proceedings involved an action before the Hong Kong court with related court proceedings in Singapore and England.
  • Advising one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies in a litigation relating to the supply of contaminated active pharmaceutical ingredients by a PRC supplier.
  • Representing a real estate investment trust in Hong Kong proceedings concerning a complex rental fraud scheme relating to a premier commercial development in Beijing.
